Monza: Victory for Ianniello-Viglietti
The crew closes out the GT Sprint season with a triumph at the Temple of Speed
The grand finale of the Italian Gran Turismo Sprint GT Cup Championship delivered the success Riccardo Ianniello and Vittorio Viglietti had been chasing. At Monza, the crew wrapped up their season in style, taking victory in Race 2 after dominating Race 1 until a technical issue struck on the final lap.
The weekend kicked off with strong free practice sessions and qualifying runs that showed steady improvement: P5 in the first session followed by an excellent P2 in Qualifying 2, putting them in prime position to challenge for victory in both races.
Saturday's performance was commanding. Ianniello seized the lead in the opening stages with a decisive overtake, then handed the Lamborghini to Viglietti in P1. The lead was controlled with authority until the final lap, when a technical problem halfway through the closing tour brought the car to a halt just corners from the checkered flag.
Sunday brought the perfect response. Starting from second position, Viglietti attacked immediately, taking command in the opening laps. From there it was a masterclass in race management: blistering pace, flawless execution, and zero mistakes.
The driver change confirmed the strength of their performance. The Lamborghini held the lead all the way to the checkered flag, delivering the well-earned victory that had eluded them and closing the season with the result they'd been working toward.
"This win was deserved," declared Riccardo Ianniello. "After Saturday we were hungry for redemption and we got it. Winning at Monza is special—it's the perfect way to close out the season."
The Monza weekend showcased the competitiveness of the Ianniello-Viglietti pairing, proving they could fight for victories and deliver when it mattered most. Closing the season on the top step of the podium at Italy's most prestigious circuit confirms the quality they've shown throughout the year.
